Motorboat Safety & Rescue Clinic Saturday 3/15/25 from 9:00 to 1:00

No charge.

Purpose: “Know Before You Go” should be the motto of every powerboater involved in assisting other boaters or in a rescue. This 4-hour clinic is another step in your lifelong quest to be the best boater possible. We will explore basic boating safety and LWSC support boat operations in a sailboat rescue. This practicum will combine discussion ashore with on-the-water practice by teams in controlling the club motorboats in various drills.

A California Boater Card, such as from the Boat US course, is required. The Boat US course is online, free, and can be completed in 3-4 hours. More information can be found here: https://www.boatus.org/california

Please arrive after 8:30 and bring your lunch for after with the group.

Purpose: Fiberglass work is an easy, straightforward chemical process, but requires the right tools, materials and safety precautions. This clinic explores the basics of small boat repair. We will combine discussion with work on example boats. The club needs more people interested in repairing its sailboats and motorboats.

We will meet from 9:00 to Noon and then an hour later in afternoon.

This clinic will perform some basic repairs in the morning, then break for lunch at the BBQ Fun Sail. You are welcome to go sailing. For those wanting to stick around, we will inspect the repair results in the later afternoon.

Please bring a lunch. For sanding dust, bring your own rubber gloves and masks.

Three-day Midwinter series for Sunfishes, CFJs, El Toros, and Hansas. Same format as Thursday night racing. Since most Sunfish sailors are newer and use club boats, this event is considered to be more of a training and clinic day.
So, head out to the lake early (11:30AM), grab and rig a boat, and learn how to buoy race!

California Boater Safety Card – Starting this year, members are required to have a CA Boater Safety Card in order to operate club motorboats – including the whalers and the RC pontoon boat. You can take the class online or in person. Our local US Coast Guard Auxiliary is providing a day-long in person class at the Sacramento Marina on March 29 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This is a great option if you like to learn in a class environment. The USCGA has held a small number of seats for LWSC members.
