Benefits of Being a PICYA member club

PICYA advocates for recreational boating in Northern California via the Recreational Boaters of California (RBOS) -- founded by PICYA in 1968.
We benefit from information sharing across clubs.
PICYA promotes boater safety.
PICYA is the only organization in Northern California that supports the promotion of recreational boating through the coordination and dissemination of information for the benefit of boaters.
PICYA sponsors the Lipton Cup, a multi-day regatta on the San Francisco Bay.
Many PICYA clubs have reciprocity programs (see below).

Member Club Reciprocity

Many of the PICYA member clubs allow reciprocity. Reciprocity means that if you may visit, use, or even possibly moor your sailboat at their club. For example some clubs have restaurant or bar in some great locations. Under reciprocity you may be a guest for dinner or a drink.

Each club writes and determines their own reciprocity policy. If you want to visit a yacht club, it is recommended that you email their Port Captain asking what their specific policy is and if a reservation is needed. You will also need to bring your Lake Washington Sailing Cub membership card. Membership cards are located in the clubhouse, or if needed contact the Vice Commodore.

Our members report that they I have never been turned away unless the club was having a formal function or had no space available.

Some favorite clubs to visit (from our own Richard Vulliet):

"If you are passing through Berkeley on a Friday evening, the Berkeley Yacht Club (my home club) offers 'beer can' racing, and has an open kitchen and bar only on Friday nights. For $12, you can get a self-cook hamburger, with full trimmings including salads, several sides, as well as a dessert. Vegetarian options are also available. Even better yet, a glass of wine is only $4 and this is a great opportunity to sit and sip wine while watching the sun set behind the GG Bridge. Spectacular view of the Bay!"

"Another yacht club that I really like is Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon. They have an old wood-paneled restaurant and bar with a spectacular view of Angel Island, the SF skyline and the Bay. They have a kitchen that rivals any upscale restaurant, plus you have docking privileges, depending on availability. This is one of my favorites and they should accept any LWSC member as a guest through the PICYA reciprocity agreement."
